Please join us in congratulating one of our wonderful NDSM alumnae for being recognized as the 2023 Young Alumna of the year at DSHA. We are so proud of you for using your gifts and talents to make a positive impact on the community! As we prepare for DSHA Alumnae Weekend, we are thrilled to announce our Young Alumna of the Year—Sandra Mejia Gerbacio, DSHA ’13! The Young Alumna of the Year Award recognizes established and future leaders among DSHA's young alumnae. The award honors an alumna for achievements in her career and/or public, community or parish service activities which may be especially exceptional given her age.
Mejia Gerbacio received her BS in mechanical engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering. Upon graduation, she started at Regal Rexnord - Industrial Power Solutions as an Application Engineer in 2017. This year, she was promoted to the Application Supervisor role and now regularly travels to customers and organizations throughout the US to troubleshoot, train, and teach customers how to use their products most efficiently. She also volunteers her time as the mechanical mentor of the Hilltopper Robotics team, composed of both DSHA and MUHS students, and received the “Woodie Flowers Finalist Award” at the robotics Regional Competition. The award recognizes those who lead, inspire, and effectively communicate in the art and science of engineering design.

Please join us in honoring Mother Caroline, as today is her birthday. She joined Blessed Theresa in an incredible journey in coming to America in order to provide education to those who needed it the most. Be sure to read more about her journey by visiting www.ssndcentralpacific.org/who-we-are/historyToday is the birthday of Mother Caroline Friess, one of four sisters and a novice who joined SSND Foundress Mother Theresa Gerhardinger in coming to America. In 1850, Mother Theresa appointed Sister Caroline vicar-general in charge of the American branch. She was twenty-six years old.
Caroline is fondly remembered as a beloved Mother whose favorite prayer book was the Directory, a list of all the School Sisters of Notre Dame in North America. She believed that education was holy work. At her death, Mother Caroline was responsible for creating an educational network that included 200 convents, 2,000 sisters and 70,000 students.
In the photo below, Mother Caroline (left) is shown walking with a novice outside the Milwaukee Motherhouse, circa 1891. ... See MoreSee Less
