Sister Gladys Courtade
About Sister Gladys Courtade, SSND
I received my B.A. from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI with a double major in Elementary Education and Language Arts. My postgraduate studies have taken place at Central Michigan University, Cardinal Stritch College and Alverno. My teaching experiences include 30 years as a primary teacher, and my past 5 years in middle school at NDS. My most meaningful experiences took place in Guatemala where I served for 7 years, first as a co-pastoral agent in Ixchiguan, San Marcos, and then in the Guatemala City dump where I developed an educational program and trained native teachers to continue the ministry to the poorest of the poor.
I believe that every child can succeed and develop their highest potential in a respectful and caring environment. My teaching style is holistic and eclectic, always centering on the needs and learning style of the student. Involving the parents as co-educators of their children is another important goal in helping each child reach their highest potential. In relating to the family in a positive way, I can better help the student achieve positive results in their growth/development as a person, not only as a student.
