Responsible. Curious. Patient.

Veronica Romo is currently a masters student at the University of Arizona; pursuing a degree in Educational Psychology. She completed her undergraduate degree at Marquette University, where she studied Primary Education and Spanish with a minor in Bilingual/Bicultural studies. Her interest in education started at a young age, around the time her two younger brothers were born. Helping them with school work was seen as an expectation at home, being almost 10 years older than both of them, but it soon became something she enjoyed to do. During that same time Veronica was a student at Notre Dame Middle School. NDSM did a very good job of incorporating her culture into the curriculum. Although Veronica did not know it at the time, having a culturally relevant curriculum was one of the many reasons why she loved being part of Notre Dame. Her middle school years taught her about what it meant to be a Latina in school, in society, and even in the workforce. This cultural consciousness that NDSM had, encouraged her to go into education. Veronica is a certified teacher in WI, and she hopes to reach out to future generations, just like NDSM teachers did for her. She will soon graduate with her masters, and plans come back home to start working in Milwaukee schools.

At Notre Dame, “I found my voice – I learned to speak up for what I believe in.”
