A Brief History

The Boys Middle School opened in 2014 to expand Notre Dame School of Milwaukee’s mission to serve both young men and women through faith-centered, high-quality education. What began as a single class has grown into a thriving program, reflecting NDSM’s strategic expansion to meet growing community demand.

In 2025, the Saint Florian Campus has undergone significant improvements through the Together We Grow Campaign, transforming it into a modern, inspiring learning environment. Renovations include updated classrooms, enhanced technology infrastructure, new small-group learning spaces, renovated gym, new outdoor spaces, and the addition of a dedicated STEM lab to support hands-on learning and Project Lead the Way programming. These updates ensure that students learn in a space that reflects the excellence and energy of the NDSM mission.

Benefits of Single-Gender Education

Our boys’ program provides an environment that promotes focus, accountability, and brotherhood. Students gain confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn to balance competition with compassion.

In a setting designed specifically for how boys learn best, they are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions, challenge themselves academically, and support one another in faith and friendship. Through this formation, our students grow into men of character, integrity, and service — young men who are prepared to make a difference in their families, communities, and the world.

Class Size

Grades 5–8 include two classes per grade, creating a close-knit environment where teachers can build strong relationships with each student.

Dual Language

All students continue NDSM’s bilingual model, mastering academic English and Spanish. Dual language education enhances critical thinking, global awareness, and communication — essential skills for future success.

Staff

Our Boys Middle School team models faith, character, and perseverance. Bilingual educators create a supportive environment that encourages excellence in all areas.

Curriculum

The curriculum prepares boys for high school success through a balance of academic rigor and faith formation. Core subjects include language arts, math, science, social studies, and religion.

Students also participate in:

  • STEM and Project Lead the Way (PLTW) — interactive, project-based modules that spark curiosity in engineering and technology
  • Physical education and team sports
  • Art, music, and leadership development
  • Dual-language literacy

Faith Formation

At the Boys Middle School, faith and leadership go hand in hand.

Students gather for weekly Mass, prayer, and reflection, learning what it means to live their faith with courage and integrity. Guided by Catholic values and the example of Christ, they are encouraged to act with compassion, serve others, and grow as men who make a difference in their families and communities.

Through religion classes, service-learning, and mentorship, boys explore what it means to lead with humility, respect, and purpose — strengthening both their spiritual lives and their sense of brotherhood.

Enrichment Opportunities

Through after-school clubs and community partnerships, students have opportunities for personal and academic growth.

Programs such as All Hands Boatworks and Shalom Club offer hands-on learning, mentorship, and service experiences that build confidence and teamwork.

Parent Engagement

At the Boys Middle School, we believe families are essential partners in helping young men grow into leaders of character and faith.

Parent engagement strengthens the bond between home and school, showing boys that their families value their education and share in their success.

Throughout the year, parents participate in special events like Mother–Son Night, school Masses, and community celebrations that build connection and pride. Volunteers are always welcome to share their time and talents — from helping with school activities to supporting service projects or athletic events.

When families show up, boys see what true leadership and love look like — faith in action through family involvement.

NDSM’s Boys Middle School is helping my son become a leader — both in school and in life. The teachers know him, challenge him, and care deeply.
