A Brief History

The Girls Middle School is where Notre Dame School of Milwaukee began. Founded in 1996 with just 26 students, it was created to provide a high-quality, Catholic education for girls in Milwaukee — one that fosters faith, leadership, and academic excellence.

Nearly three decades later, that legacy continues to flourish, empowering hundreds of young women to reach their fullest potential. In summer 2025, the Blessed Theresa Campus underwent renovations as part of the Together We Grow Campaign, modernizing classrooms and creating new spaces for learning and collaboration. Updates include a refreshed chapel, an innovation space, and a renovated gym, designed to support today’s students while honoring the school’s founding mission.

Benefits of Single-Gender Education

In an all-girls setting, students are encouraged to take academic risks, explore leadership roles, and grow in self-confidence.

Research shows that single-gender environments foster stronger participation in STEM, higher academic engagement, and greater confidence — outcomes reflected daily at NDSM.

Class Size

Grades 5–8 include two classes per grade, maintaining small learning communities where teachers know each student personally and can tailor instruction for success.

Dual Language

All students continue in our English–Spanish dual-language model, mastering academic vocabulary and communication in both languages. This bilingual foundation strengthens critical thinking and cross-cultural understanding.

Staff

Led by an experienced team of bilingual educators, our Girls Middle School teachers model the leadership and faith we seek to instill in our students.

Curriculum

The curriculum challenges students to think critically and lead confidently. Core academics include math, science, language arts, social studies, religion, and physical education.

In addition, students participate in:

  • STEM and Project Lead the Way (PLTW) — hands-on, project-based learning that builds skills in engineering, design, and technology
  • Visual and performing arts
  • Leadership and service learning
  • Dual language literacy and communication

Faith Formation

At the Girls Middle School, faith is the heart of our community.

Students attend weekly Mass, lead prayers, and reflect on how faith calls them to action in their daily lives. Guided by the School Sisters of Notre Dame’s mission, girls learn that education and faith together empower them to transform society through love, justice, and service.

Through religion classes, service projects, and retreats, students grow in their understanding of Catholic teaching and develop a deep sense of empathy and purpose. Faith formation helps them recognize their potential as leaders who bring light to the world.

Enrichment Opportunities

Girls Middle School students enjoy access to after-school enrichment programs and partnerships that support academic, spiritual, and personal growth — such as PEARLS for Teen Girls, Shalom Club, and community service initiatives.

Parent Engagement

At the Girls Middle School, families play a vital role in shaping the next generation of young women leaders.
We believe that parent engagement is an extension of our mission — when families are involved, students feel supported and empowered to reach their full potential.

Parents are invited to participate in community events such as Father–Daughter Night, cultural celebrations, and school Masses, as well as volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Their involvement demonstrates to students that faith, education, and family are all connected in helping them become confident, compassionate women ready to transform society.

When families and the school community come together, our girls see firsthand the power of partnership, faith, and shared purpose.

Graduating from the all-girls school at Notre Dame School of Milwaukee (NDSM) was truly life-changing. It instilled in me a deep sense of empowerment, confidence, and independence. After college, I felt called to return to NDSM and help continue its mission—opening doors for more children to succeed and thrive.
